Tech For Refugees, Uber and NeedsMap Provide Relief to Earthquake Victims in Turkey
Tech For Refugees today announced a new program in collaboration with Uber and data-matching platform NeedsMap, to address the transportation needs of people affected by the February 6 earthquake in Turkey.
The initiative will provide a grant for NeedsMap users in the region to buy Uber ride credits. Uber will in turn cover all fees and support costs for all rides taken, with any payments going directly to local drivers.
The scheme will operate in a region severely affected by the earthquake, including eleven cities (Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, Adana, Adıyaman, Osmaniye, Gaziantep, Kilis, Malatya, Diyarbakır, Şanlıurfa and Elazığ).
NeedsMap is a map-based data-matching platform that uses in-kind transfers to connect people in need with people who want to help. It is a voluntary web platform that operates through a system of non-monetary contributions.
