IRC Signpost Project Wins United Nations “Connect” Award

The International Rescue Committee’s Signpost program, supported in part by Tech for Refugees, has been awarded a prestigious Connect award at the 2023 United Nations SDG Action Awards in Rome.

Signpost was honored for its work empowering millions of refugees with timely, accurate, and often life-saving information. The program is a community-led information service that uses technology solutions to help refugees and displaced people improve their lives, giving them increased access to services including temporary accommodation, educational facilities, and legal and psychological advice.

In February 2023, Tech For Refugees made a three-year commitment to advance the adoption of Signpost in 10 locations including Africa, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and the Americas.

The IRC said, “Signpost’s vision – shared by our tech partners Breakthrough Prize Foundation, Cisco, Google.org, Meta, Microsoft, Schmidt Futures, Tripadvisor Foundation and Zendesk who helped make this project possible – is to give the power of information to the most neglected and 'last mile' communities in crises worldwide, equipping people on the move with a sense of control over their lives and make the decisions that are best for them.”
